A descendant of one of the most prestigious families in the art world, it’s not surprising that Philippe Hoerle-Guggenheim has an intrinsic appreciation of art. However, it’s his knack for finding emerging talent which has propelled Philippe to success. Opening galleries all over the world, Philippe has introduced upcoming audiences to new audiences worldwide and given ever-increasing audiences the opportunity to experience thought-provoking, stimulating and inspiring exhibitions and installations.
Born in France and raised in Germany, Philippe Hoerle-Guggenheim’s early life was an exploration of different countries and continents. With unrivaled access to galleries, museums and private exhibitions, his early experiences have shaped his approach to art and the industry as a whole. Whilst his mother worked with the embassy of Senegal, Philippe’s father was a prominent landscape architect in southern Europe, perhaps mirroring the combination of creativity and structure Philippe’s own career reflects.
Following a childhood filled with artists and creativity, Philippe’s unrelenting passion for art was sure to be a defining feature in his lift. However, a foray in the world of finance came first. Launching a career in business, Philippe Hoerle-Guggenheim studied business at Cambridge before working as a senior analyst in financial controlling for Hyatt. Whilst building a successful career in finance, Philippe continued to delve into the alluring world of art; regularly hosting private exhibitions and events.
As technology advanced and art became increasingly diverse and experimental, Philippe Hoerle-Guggenheim saw the opportunity to explore unchartered waters and has done so expertly. Taking his business knowledge into the art world and combining his passions, Philippe’s nuanced approach has enabled him to cultivate and curate some of the most prestigious exhibitions in the world.
With locations in New York, Madrid, and Napa Valley, Philippe Hoerle-Guggenheim has ensured the HG Contemporary gallery stretches across continents, and embodies locally-inspired art, as well as featuring internationally-recognized artists. Having exhibited works by RETNA, Raphael Mazzucco, Ronnie Wood, Jason Dussault, Marco Glaviano, Salvador Dali, John Lennon, Andy Warhol, and Peter Beard, Philippe Hoerle-Guggenheim is known for embracing diverse and ground-breaking pieces.
Committed to bringing emerging talent into the light, Philippe relishes the opportunity to engage with upcoming artists, stating, ‘I feel truly lucky to be with some of the most provocative and raw talents of today’. For both established and emerging artists, having your work featured in a Philippe Hoerle-Guggenheim exhibition is certainly a sign of success.
Drawing attention and praise from major industry figures, as well as the mainstream media, Philippe Hoerle-Guggenheim has been at the center of some of the most successful exhibitions of recent times. A regular fixture at the Frieze Art Fair and Art Basel in Miami and Hong Kong, Philippe Hoerle-Guggenheim doesn’t stay in one place for long.
Traveling the world, hand-selecting artists and pieces for exhibitions, launching satellite galleries in Dubai and beyond, as well as taking part in key industry events, such as TEDx, Philippe Hoerle-Guggenheim isn’t just an integral part of the industry, he’s leading the art world in new directions.
With a nod to the future, HG Contemporary looks set to incorporate an increasingly diverse attitude towards its exhibitions and its own protocols. Having already floated the idea of using Blockchain to add increased security to the industry, Philippe Hoerle-Guggenheim is bringing innovative new ideas and concepts and making them industry standards.
Whilst all of the HG Contemporary gallery locations celebrate emerging artists and new talent, it is its Williamsburg location which is, perhaps, the most eclectic. Designed to offer a more experimental environment, Philippe Hoerle-Guggenheim has been vocal about the location’s potential. Routinely hosting installations and featuring indoor murals, the gallery location couldn’t be more in-keeping with the locale. Giving way to exciting new artists, and allowing them to explore their creative instincts, Philippe Hoerle-Guggenheim is a gallery owner who understands art and appreciates its intrinsic value.
Taking on a pivotal role in every exhibition, Philippe curates every exposition the gallery hosts. Whilst his background in finance has ensured commercial success, it is his unrivaled skill for developing talent and recognizing quality which sets him apart from others in the industry. With an innate appreciation and love for his work, Philippe’s commitment to the art world shows no signs of dissipating.
With new gallery locations already being scouted, HG Contemporary will soon be opening new exhibition space and welcoming even more talent through its doors. Having created a stir with previous star-studded opening nights, the launch of another HG Contemporary location is sure to be one of the biggest events on the social calendar. Respected by his peers, revered by the artists he works with and adored by art lovers, Philippe Hoerle-Guggenheim has helped to bring an ever-increasing diverse body of work to the forefront. With new exhibitions, events and locations all in the pipeline, the future for Philippe Hoerle-Guggenheim and HG Contemporary is destined to be big.
Despite his busy schedule, Philippe maintains connections with various charitable and non-profit organizations. Taking an active role at The Bowery Mission and acting as a board member for Elevate New York in conjunction with the Bronx Studio School for Writers and Artists, it’s clear where Philippe’s passion lies. By bringing new talent into the light and affording emerging artists the space to showcase their works, Philippe Hoerle-Guggenheim has single-handedly launched the careers of many established artists.
